Habia postergado la decision de comprar el libro, porque tengo el librero lleno y no queria comprar un libro mas para almacenar sin terminar de leer. Pero cada testimonio de lectores anteriores me movian a querer comprarlo.. Cuando vi la publicacion de que el libro estaba en Amazon y podia comprarlo para leerlo en el Ipad me motive, y que no seria un libro mas para mi librero sino que lo tendria muy comodo y accesible, ya que tengo una tienda virtual (@evesclothing) y siempre estoy conectada y con los aparatos electronicos en las manos. Realmente me resultaria mas facil leerlo en el Ipad y les cuento que lo hice en dos largas tardes...deje de vender, deje de atender todo a mi alrededor y me dedique tiempo a mi. Un buen tiempo para llorar, reir y reflexionar de como andaba mi vida ultimamente. La parte que mas me impacto es el testimonio de la ni�a con cancer que queria conocer el mar. La frase que adopte para mi es: " cuando sabes lo que quieres, obtienes lo que deseas". Y solo espero la fecha de la conferencia en New York para completar mi experiencia y como miles de personas gritar fuerte #voypormas. Se que es solo el comienzo de un nueva etapa en la vida de Tania Baez y quiero formar parte de ella. Antes de que este proyecto llegue a muchos otros paises y yo me lo valla a perder por estas postergando. The Sienkiewicz era begins...

The first two volumes of "New Mutants Classic" covered the initial assemblage of the team under the tutelage of Professor Charles Xavier, saw them go on a couple of adventures against such foes as the Brood, the Hellfire Club, and the Demons of Limbo, lose a member, and add two more, going through two different artists in the span of eighteen issues or so (Bob McLeod and Sal Buscema). Volume 2 ended with the promise of "Dani Moonstar's last stand" and "Bill Sienkiewicz's first issue", which Volume 3 promptly delivers on.

At the opening, the team lineup consists of Dani Moonstar (now going by Mirage, but no one ever uses it), Sam Guthrie (Cannonball) (the two function as co-leaders, though, this being Chris Claremont, Dani's pretty much always calling the shots), Roberto da Costa (Sunspot), Rahne Sinclair (Wolfsbane), Amara Aquila (Magma), and Illyana Rasputin (Magik). Dani's parents and grandfather supposed met their end at the hands of a demon bear, the latter's death depicted in the first issue of the series: the first story arc contained in this volume features the bear's return for a final showdown. With Sienkiewicz's moody art, the combat has some very memorable imagery (the opening page combing Dani's bedspread with the image of the snarling demon, for example). Following that, original artist Bob McLeod drops in to pencil the series' first Annual, a one-shot adventure featuring the crew going on a rather strange adventure involving teleporting rockstars and a Dyson Sphere; it's most notable for Claremont's enjoyable depiction of the various romantic dynamics between various members of the group, particularly the team's two male members' competition for the attention of the aforesaid teleporting rockstar. McLeod's work is more conventional than Sienkiewicz, but in a lot of ways I enjoy his art more, simply out of preference for his more straightforward storytelling. After this comes the introduction of a new team member (complete with setup for future stories to come in future Classic volumes), and then a rather strange story guest-starring "Cloak and Dagger"; this section spotlights a flaw in the collection, because it is based on the events that occurred in an issue of "Marvel Team-Up" that is not included in any of the volumes, so there's some sense that the readers who weren't around at the time aren't getting the whole thing, though the characters exposit enough so that you get the gist of it.

Chris Claremont is a widely derided writer these days, having atrophied as a writer over the decades, losing the originality in years of repetitive stories and failing to keep up with changes in writing style. However, here he is at the top of his game, producing enjoyable adventure stories while at the same time expertly juggling his cast, giving insight into their feelings and motivations, and, as best as anyone has ever done, capturing the potential of the mutant allegory. Professor Xavier, nowadays often characterized as a manipulator, is perfectly characterized here; "Xavier's Dream" is never more real in the pages of these stories.

This series is recommend to fans of Marvel's mutants in arguably their finest era.

Bill Sienkiewicz brings the surreal

THE NEW MUTANTS was the first X-Men spinoff title and, back then in the '80s, I was a big enough fan of Marvel's merry mutants that I had to pick this up, never mind that artists Bob McLeod and Sal Buscema's stuff tended to be more of the workmanlike variety. Still, I liked Claremont's stories well enough (this was before his writing went south), and I dug the ethnic diversity represented by these teenaged mutants. And then, in issue #18, Bill Sienkiewicz moseyed along, with his very unconventional, impressionistic style, and his art made my eyes pop out. For my money, Sienkievicz's run marked the high point of this comic book.

NEW MUTANTS CLASSIC Vol. 3 collects issues #18-25 of the ongoing series, as well as NEW MUTANTS ANNUAL #1. This trade kicks off with the gripping Demon Bear saga, pitting Danielle Moonstar and her fellow students against the malevolent supernatural beast that had been stalking Dani's dreams. Next is the double-sized and fun "Slumber Party!" issue, and it also introduces one of my favorite New Mutants ever to the team, the wicked cool techno-organic metamorph Warlock. NEW MUTANTS ANNUAL #1 has artwork by co-creator Bob McLeod and features Lila Cheney, celebrated rock star and intergalactic thief currently eyeballing Earth for her next improbable heist. Issue #22 then sets up the following three-part story in which we learn that Cloak & Dagger have been rendered powerless, with their abilities having been transferred to Sunspot and Wolfsbane (who've recently been demonstrating very disturbing behavior). Thing is, if you're not familiar with Cloak & Dagger, this arc may leave you a little lost. As it is, this story isn't quite as compelling as the Demon Bear saga. However, Sienkiewicz's visuals make it worth flipping thru.

At the time the UNCANNY X-MEN series was the hottest thing going in comic books, and certainly the NEW MUTANTS rode that wave of popularity. This was when Chris Claremont still had that writing mojo, when his stories still seemed fresh and absorbing. I remember, when I was a kid, how reading UNCANNY X-MEN and NEW MUTANTS kept me on the edge of my seat. It was cool that characters from both titles tended to casually guest star in each others' stories (as when Colossus and Nightcrawler popped in to train Sunspot and Cannonball). My favorite New Mutants happen to be Warlock (as mentioned), Illyana Rasputin (demon-cursed teleporter and sorceress), and Dani Moonstar (Cheyenne illusion-caster), but Claremont does a good job of spotlighting all the teens. But I'm pretty lukewarm about Sunspot and Magma, both of whom exude a sense of entitlement and are very arrogant, prickly kids. And then there's the 13-year-old werewolf Rahne Sinclair, whose extremely prudish behavior irritates (although, okay, she does demonstrate this aching vulnerability). Meanwhile, Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. Cannonball, is a bit of a limp biscuit. He's the oldest student, so he feels a responsibility towards the others. Yet he's so flippin' insecure, this stemming from his frustrating lack of progress in controlling his powers.

Claremont continues to flesh out the subplots centering on the Hellfire Club and on Magneto (paving the way for his later becoming headmaster of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters). The New Mutants being teens, these stories are peppered with crushes and parties, jealousies and rivalries. And, typically, angst and more angst. We get brief scenes of the New Mutants learning in the classroom and plenty of moments of them learning in the Danger Room. Somewhere along the way, we learn that Kitty Pryde's friend Douglas Ramsey is himself a mutant. Claremont isn't stingy with the action and adventuring as our fledgling heroes end up being transported to a different plane of reality and, later, gallivanting to a far-flung galaxy. It certainly beats having to ride the bus to rescue a captured X-Man (see X-Men: New Mutants Classic, Vol. 2 (v. 2)).

But, above all, this trade collection is all about Bill Sienkiewicz. There are several comic book artists whose styles are wonderfully offbeat and very distinctive (Jack Kirby, Windsor-Smith, Arthur Adams, Gene Colan, Mignola, Bissette & Totleben, etc.). Sienkiewicz' stuff is instantly recognizable and it is wild and inventive, his lines just distorted enough that they can't help but set a surreal tone yet solid enough that they don't become too cryptic. For more taste of Sienkiewicz, you should check out his work in the two mini-series: THE SHADOW and ELECTRA: ASSASSIN. And, of course, in the next NEW MUTANTS trade (X-Men: New Mutants Classic, Vol. 4), which reprints the excellent Legion storyline.

Fun Collection of New Mutants Comics from the 1980s

The third volume of "New Mutants Classic" puts the art of Bill Sienkiewicz on center stage, even as Chris Claremont continues to write the X-Men’s understudies’ adventures. Sienkiewicz’s art adds a far darker, often surreal mood to the New Mutants. There’s an annual featuring the art of Bob McLeod in an annual which offers a sharp contrast to Sienkiewicz’s work in terms of content, style and mood. There are some interesting stories here with Magik and Dani Moonstar taking central stage while some of the characters (namely Magma) seem a little underutilized. Warlock makes his debut in this collection though his trademark, unique speech patterns have yet to form.

Generally, this is a collection of exciting comics. Still, there are some weak spots. Sienkiewicz’s art isn’t for everyone. Cloak and Dagger pop up in some of the latter stories but the story is a bit of a mess since a “Marvel Team Up” comic essential to understanding it is not included. There are some excellent sketches and covers from Sienkiewicz to close out the book.

This is a fun book to be sure which will appeal to New Mutants fans. But it’s not a good jumping on point and new readers will probably be lost. Recommended but most readers should look at the previous two volumes first.

Great German Diction book!

This book gives a good basic idea of what the rules of German Diction are!
It explains very clearly the difference between open and closed sounds and explains umlauts using a combination of two vowels. An excellent book for a German Diction class!

AN IMPORTANT WORK BY A FOUNDER OF POPULATION GENETICS

Sewall Wright (1889-1988) was an American geneticist known as one of the founders of population genetics, an important step in the development of modern evolutionary theory. The first volume of this series is Evolution and the Genetics of Populations: Genetics and Biometric Foundations Vol. 1, and the third volume is Evolution and the Genetics of Populations, Volume 3: Experimental Results and Evolutionary Deductions.

He wrote in the Introduction to this 1969 book, "Volume 1 of this treatise was concerned with the genetic and biometric foundations on which population genetics must be built. Since the emphasis here is to be on higher organisms, most emphasis will be placed on diploids, but some attention must be given to the haploid phase, to sex-linked lock, and to polysomic lock and polyploids... Chromosome aberration as a factor in evolution will be largely deferred until volume 3, because it does not lend itself to either determinate or stochastic mathematical treatment, to which volume 2 is to be devoted... The relations of genes to characters of the organisms and ultimately to selection ... will be of primary importance in the present volume."

He notes, "Such evolutionary processes as mutation, immigration, selection, and inbreeding seem at first sight to be so different in nature that quantitative comparisons of effects would be impossible. They may, however, be brought under a common viewpoint by measuring each by its effect on gene frequency much as physical phenomena of the most diverse sorts may be reduced to a common quantitative basis by measuring their capacities to do work." (Pg. 24) He adds, "It is evident that any attempt at complete mathematical formulation must ordinarily lead to extreme complexity and that simplifying assumptions are necessary in order to obtain an understanding of the essential effects of each complication." (Pg. 29)

He explains, "In dealing with mating systems... it was pointed out that the concept of 'effective population number' is a useful one for comparative purposes. This concept becomes a practical necessity in dealing with natural populations. It is obvious that some sort of abstraction must always be made from crude enumerations to obtain the most significant population number from the standpoint of the effects of inbreeding... Such effects depend primarily on the number of individuals of reproductive age per generation, not on the total of all ages. There is the further complication that those of reproductive age may differ enormously in productivity. The sex ration must be taken into account. There is also the difficult problem of overlapping generations in most species." (Pg. 211)

He admits in his discussion of The Steady State Distributions under Mutation and Immigration that "These are, of course, all highly idealized situations, never fully realized in nature." (Pg. 355)

He observes, "It is by no means certain that even a rather strongly favorable individual mutation will be fixed. It is indeed much more likely that it will be lost by accidents of sampling during the period in which it is carried by very few individuals." (Pg. 377)

He summarizes, "Throughout this volume, the genetic compositions of populations have been discussed almost wholly in terms of gene frequencies. The conclusions can be applied to natural and experimental populations insofar as the frequencies of genes are determinable. Unfortunately, many of the most important characters in either sort of population are continuously varying ones in which gene frequencies cannot be determined. The first step in bridging the gap is the analysis of the phenotypic variability of such characters into components that are of genetic significance." (Pg. 487-488)

Wicked games

Very interesting read. The sex scene was definitely.....steamy! I can relate to Jillian, because I am also a curvy woman so I was able to get into the story, which I enjoyed. Mr Wright is a real peace of work...but we always want the bad guy.... I think it needed a little more depth to both characters but overall it was a good read. Looking forward to reading the rest in the series.

I enjoyed the story. Jillian Campbell is a redheaded, hazel-eyed, thirty year old freelance writer. Gained some weight in the last few years. She has given up on dating, but would like companionship.
Her best friend is Beth. The magazine Beth works at has an Employee Wellness Initiative program. They had a contest and Beth won a year-long membership and 3 private training sessions for herself and a plus 1 with Steven Wright at his gym.
Steven Wright is a former Olympic athlete and world-class lifter. He owns the 'Wright Way' gym. He is tall, dark, built, and handsome.
When Beth and Jillian arrive at the gym, they check-in at reception. They are given keys to lockers and maps of the gym. In the locker room, they put their stuff up.While in the locker room, an employee approaches them and let's them know that 1 of them will work with her and the other will work with Steven. Beth tells Jillian to go work with Steven and she'll go with this trainer for stretching and learning how to use the machines.
Jillian went to the room where Steven would be assessing her. When she walked through the door and Steven looked at her, he was immediately attracted to her. This surprised him because aside from her red hair, Jillian wasn't his type. He was very blunt with his assessment of her. It rubbed Jillian the wrong way. She finds Steven to be arrogant, entitled, and very hot. They start to check each other out. Extreme sexual tension.
Steven tells Jillian that heat therapy would benefit her. They wind up going to his private office and exercise/meditation room. Once they're in his office, Jillian writes Beth a letter letting her know that the assessment is going to take longer and she would take a cab home. Steven has someone deliver the letter to Beth's locker.They go in the exercise/meditation room. He tells Jillian to take off her top and pants, leaving her with just her sports bra and panties to go into the sauna. He strips down to some shorts. While in the sauna, he starts massaging her. Eventually, they have sex. Afterwards, they have a conversation. Steven insults Jillian. She tells him off. Then Jillian leaves. Outside the gym, the receptionist comes out and gives her a note from Steven. In the cab, on the way home, she reads the note. After reading the note, Jillian is left feeling conflicted.

Steamy beginning, but very short

When Jillian accompanies her friend to an exclusive new gym, she catches the eye of the owner, Stephen. Although their attraction is immediate and intense, he’s also a huge jerk. He’s unable to refrain from insulting her body. This is a serial, so it ends shortly after their first encounter. The scene is written well. Fans of seeing jerks transformed into okay guys (what I assume will happen here) may appreciate this as long as they don’t mind short installments.

A comprehensive manual of exercises for the advanced student or teacher

I have to say I own most books ever written on acting, and this is the one I would recommend to anyone! It takes the most important elements from all the Method acting teachers and creates a sort of manual that will actually give you results!

David Krasner draws from Meisner, Strasberg and Adler in many of these exercises, but also from Maria Knebel, Vahktangov and Keith Johnstone.
For me it was like he'd scanned my brain for the techniques I found most useful from each acting-path and put them together in a book for me!
I am so thrilled with this book and as an acting teacher I will be drawing on it again and again!

Beginning with an examination of rape scenes in English Civil War propaganda, The Politics of Rape argues that Roundhead authors described acts of rape and atrocity to demonize their enemies, the Irish, the Catholics, and the Cavaliers. After the Restoration, propagandists and playwrights on each side of every political conflict would follow suit, altering the rhetoric of sexual violence in response to each new moment of political upheaval: The Restoration of Charles II, the Second and Third Anglo-Dutch Wars, the Popish Plot, the Exclusion Crisis, the Glorious Revolution, and the accession of William and Mary. The study offers an intensive look at British propaganda culture, gathering together a wealth of understudied pamphlet texts, and identifying a series of stock figures that recur throughout the century: The demonic Irishman, sexually violent villain of the 1641 Irish Rebellion tracts; the debauched Cavalier, the secretly Catholic royalist rapist; the poisonous Catholic bride, the malignant consort who encourages the rapes of Protestant women; the cannibal father, the evil patriarch who rapes his daughters-in-laws before ingesting his own sons as a symbol of monarchical overreach; and the ravished monarch, the male rape victim whose sexual violation protests his political disenfranchisement. The study also traces the appearance of these figures on the British stage, examining well-known works by Dryden, Rochester, Behn, Lee, and Shadwell, alongside lesser-known plays by Orrery, Howard, Settle, Crowne, Ravenscroft, Pix, Cibber, and Brady. The Politics of Rape thus offers a new method for understanding of the geo-political implications of theatrical sexual violence.
