This book gives a good basic idea of what the rules of German Diction are!
It explains very clearly the difference between open and closed sounds and explains umlauts using a combination of two vowels. An excellent book for a German Diction class!

AN IMPORTANT WORK BY A FOUNDER OF POPULATION GENETICS

Sewall Wright (1889-1988) was an American geneticist known as one of the founders of population genetics, an important step in the development of modern evolutionary theory. The first volume of this series is Evolution and the Genetics of Populations: Genetics and Biometric Foundations Vol. 1, and the third volume is Evolution and the Genetics of Populations, Volume 3: Experimental Results and Evolutionary Deductions.

He wrote in the Introduction to this 1969 book, "Volume 1 of this treatise was concerned with the genetic and biometric foundations on which population genetics must be built. Since the emphasis here is to be on higher organisms, most emphasis will be placed on diploids, but some attention must be given to the haploid phase, to sex-linked lock, and to polysomic lock and polyploids... Chromosome aberration as a factor in evolution will be largely deferred until volume 3, because it does not lend itself to either determinate or stochastic mathematical treatment, to which volume 2 is to be devoted... The relations of genes to characters of the organisms and ultimately to selection ... will be of primary importance in the present volume."

He notes, "Such evolutionary processes as mutation, immigration, selection, and inbreeding seem at first sight to be so different in nature that quantitative comparisons of effects would be impossible. They may, however, be brought under a common viewpoint by measuring each by its effect on gene frequency much as physical phenomena of the most diverse sorts may be reduced to a common quantitative basis by measuring their capacities to do work." (Pg. 24) He adds, "It is evident that any attempt at complete mathematical formulation must ordinarily lead to extreme complexity and that simplifying assumptions are necessary in order to obtain an understanding of the essential effects of each complication." (Pg. 29)

He explains, "In dealing with mating systems... it was pointed out that the concept of 'effective population number' is a useful one for comparative purposes. This concept becomes a practical necessity in dealing with natural populations. It is obvious that some sort of abstraction must always be made from crude enumerations to obtain the most significant population number from the standpoint of the effects of inbreeding... Such effects depend primarily on the number of individuals of reproductive age per generation, not on the total of all ages. There is the further complication that those of reproductive age may differ enormously in productivity. The sex ration must be taken into account. There is also the difficult problem of overlapping generations in most species." (Pg. 211)

He admits in his discussion of The Steady State Distributions under Mutation and Immigration that "These are, of course, all highly idealized situations, never fully realized in nature." (Pg. 355)

He observes, "It is by no means certain that even a rather strongly favorable individual mutation will be fixed. It is indeed much more likely that it will be lost by accidents of sampling during the period in which it is carried by very few individuals." (Pg. 377)

He summarizes, "Throughout this volume, the genetic compositions of populations have been discussed almost wholly in terms of gene frequencies. The conclusions can be applied to natural and experimental populations insofar as the frequencies of genes are determinable. Unfortunately, many of the most important characters in either sort of population are continuously varying ones in which gene frequencies cannot be determined. The first step in bridging the gap is the analysis of the phenotypic variability of such characters into components that are of genetic significance." (Pg. 487-488)

Very interesting read. The sex scene was definitely.....steamy! I can relate to Jillian, because I am also a curvy woman so I was able to get into the story, which I enjoyed. Mr Wright is a real peace of work...but we always want the bad guy.... I think it needed a little more depth to both characters but overall it was a good read. Looking forward to reading the rest in the series.

I enjoyed the story. Jillian Campbell is a redheaded, hazel-eyed, thirty year old freelance writer. Gained some weight in the last few years. She has given up on dating, but would like companionship.
Her best friend is Beth. The magazine Beth works at has an Employee Wellness Initiative program. They had a contest and Beth won a year-long membership and 3 private training sessions for herself and a plus 1 with Steven Wright at his gym.
Steven Wright is a former Olympic athlete and world-class lifter. He owns the 'Wright Way' gym. He is tall, dark, built, and handsome.
When Beth and Jillian arrive at the gym, they check-in at reception. They are given keys to lockers and maps of the gym. In the locker room, they put their stuff up.While in the locker room, an employee approaches them and let's them know that 1 of them will work with her and the other will work with Steven. Beth tells Jillian to go work with Steven and she'll go with this trainer for stretching and learning how to use the machines.
Jillian went to the room where Steven would be assessing her. When she walked through the door and Steven looked at her, he was immediately attracted to her. This surprised him because aside from her red hair, Jillian wasn't his type. He was very blunt with his assessment of her. It rubbed Jillian the wrong way. She finds Steven to be arrogant, entitled, and very hot. They start to check each other out. Extreme sexual tension.
Steven tells Jillian that heat therapy would benefit her. They wind up going to his private office and exercise/meditation room. Once they're in his office, Jillian writes Beth a letter letting her know that the assessment is going to take longer and she would take a cab home. Steven has someone deliver the letter to Beth's locker.They go in the exercise/meditation room. He tells Jillian to take off her top and pants, leaving her with just her sports bra and panties to go into the sauna. He strips down to some shorts. While in the sauna, he starts massaging her. Eventually, they have sex. Afterwards, they have a conversation. Steven insults Jillian. She tells him off. Then Jillian leaves. Outside the gym, the receptionist comes out and gives her a note from Steven. In the cab, on the way home, she reads the note. After reading the note, Jillian is left feeling conflicted.

Steamy beginning, but very short

When Jillian accompanies her friend to an exclusive new gym, she catches the eye of the owner, Stephen. Although their attraction is immediate and intense, he’s also a huge jerk. He’s unable to refrain from insulting her body. This is a serial, so it ends shortly after their first encounter. The scene is written well. Fans of seeing jerks transformed into okay guys (what I assume will happen here) may appreciate this as long as they don’t mind short installments.

A comprehensive manual of exercises for the advanced student or teacher

I have to say I own most books ever written on acting, and this is the one I would recommend to anyone! It takes the most important elements from all the Method acting teachers and creates a sort of manual that will actually give you results!

David Krasner draws from Meisner, Strasberg and Adler in many of these exercises, but also from Maria Knebel, Vahktangov and Keith Johnstone.
For me it was like he'd scanned my brain for the techniques I found most useful from each acting-path and put them together in a book for me!
I am so thrilled with this book and as an acting teacher I will be drawing on it again and again!

Beginning with an examination of rape scenes in English Civil War propaganda, The Politics of Rape argues that Roundhead authors described acts of rape and atrocity to demonize their enemies, the Irish, the Catholics, and the Cavaliers. After the Restoration, propagandists and playwrights on each side of every political conflict would follow suit, altering the rhetoric of sexual violence in response to each new moment of political upheaval: The Restoration of Charles II, the Second and Third Anglo-Dutch Wars, the Popish Plot, the Exclusion Crisis, the Glorious Revolution, and the accession of William and Mary. The study offers an intensive look at British propaganda culture, gathering together a wealth of understudied pamphlet texts, and identifying a series of stock figures that recur throughout the century: The demonic Irishman, sexually violent villain of the 1641 Irish Rebellion tracts; the debauched Cavalier, the secretly Catholic royalist rapist; the poisonous Catholic bride, the malignant consort who encourages the rapes of Protestant women; the cannibal father, the evil patriarch who rapes his daughters-in-laws before ingesting his own sons as a symbol of monarchical overreach; and the ravished monarch, the male rape victim whose sexual violation protests his political disenfranchisement. The study also traces the appearance of these figures on the British stage, examining well-known works by Dryden, Rochester, Behn, Lee, and Shadwell, alongside lesser-known plays by Orrery, Howard, Settle, Crowne, Ravenscroft, Pix, Cibber, and Brady.
