Iconic. Period. The image in your head of Hemingway? Came from this photographer. Einstein? Oppenheimer? JFK? Ditto.

This is a whirlwind tour of the 20th century. Picasso, Krushchev, MLK, Helen Heller, Castro, Shaw, Steinbeck, Joan Baez, Apollo astronauts, Henry Moore, Churchill, Chagal, Albert Schweitzer and on and on.

Photographs of great clarity, portraits brimming over with personality, works that embrace the legendary nature of the subjects while exposing wrinkles and imperfections. For every portrait that delivers what one expects (Castro, staring straight at the camera, a little threatening, a little wry) there are incredibly unnerving works (Sibelius with his eyes closed? Prince Charles in some sort of safari jacket with a shiny ring on his finger looking like a fey, condescending sportsman? Kruschev in furs...smothered in furs?)

As has often been remarked, Karsh's attention to the surface details: the silvers, the textures, the play of light reveals a great craftsman at work.

ANYWAY...this University of Toronto edition is a quality piece of work: large format on heavy paper, almost four pounds, red cloth over hardback boards with a sewn binding, dustcover, 202 pages. And Karsh's commentary on the making of each portrait is included as well.

I think that this book is fun and great because you get to make the choices! You get to choose the endings. And in my opinion that's fun it also makes you think! And , i read this with my mom , and she agreed that this book was fun and great. I mean, if you read this book , you will be cursed! I'm kidding , but do read it! It is ''perfectly obstrondosis''[ob-stron-do-sis] or ''wonderfully made''. And , if you compare this with Stay out of the basement , this will be the best!Read it for yourself!

Goosebumps is cool

This book was really cool because you get to pick your own ending and you can keep reading other stories in the book, reading different stories even when you're reading the same pages. This is not like other books that you can only read over with one story. I think it's cool when Greg got three hairs from the warewolf. There are still more stories in the book I haven't read. Maybe I will get it from the library and finish all the versions

Pratik Desai

Pratik Desai, PhD, is the Principal Scientist and cofounder of a connected devices start-up, Imbue Labs, where he develops scalable and interoperable architecture for wearable devices and Internet of Things (IoT) platforms during the day. At night, he leads the development of an open source IoT initiative, the Semantic Repository of Things. Pratik has 8 years of research and design experience in various layers of the IoT and its predecessor technologies such as wireless sensor networks, RFID, and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. His domains of expertise are the IoT, Semantic Web, machine learning, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Pratik completed his MS and PhD from Wright State University, Ohio, and collaborated with the Ohio Center of Excellence in Knowledge-enabled Computing (Kno.e.sis) during his doctoral research. His doctoral research was focused on developing situation awareness frameworks for IoT devices, enabling semantic web-based reasoning and handling the uncertainty associated with sensor data. So far on chapter 4 of the book it seems like the author is writing for himself. Most of his explanations are unclear leaving the reader having to figure out a lot on his own. This is due to the fact that he did not bother to include any screen shots. Does not provide a comprehensive list of parts for each chapter either. I'm half way into reading about 12C protocol and now I find out that I need a TMP102 sensor. Thanks for the heads up. let me see if I can make one appear out of thin air so I can follow along and better understand this new concept. I am not impressed so far, but will update if anything changes.
