Balanced training is by far the best way to go for every dog. Anyone who thinks balanced training is abusive, aversive or otherwise filled with nothing but punishment and dominance techniques has no clue what they are talking about.

Know your trainers!

As a professional dog trainer, I found that this material has some of the best description of methods and techniques when using the training equipment properly. Most people, especially trainers, that down grade or down play training equipment really 1) don't know how to use them 2) are too afraid to use them 3) or heard bad things so didn't explore on their own. When training some of the smartest breeds out there, you really need to know what you are doing and Adam Katz does!

Exactly what you would expect and worth it!

Perfect for the basement tinkerer. This book may not be as comprehensive in its descriptions as "Ingenious Mechanisms for Designers and Inventors," but it is only 1/20th the price.

The illustrations are simple and easy to understand. Often they show the isolated mechanism or mechanical movement independent of any other components. This is great because sometimes all the extra gobbledygook of a technical schmatic can make understanding things a real chore.

If you're an engineer looking for mathmatical equations and formulas, this book is not going to help. The text is made up of very simple generalizations, such as, "changes rotational motion into reciprocating motion."

Great as brain excercise, great bathroom reader, and economically priced to boot!

Good "idea book" for mechanical engineers

This book is primarily for experienced mechanical engineers or those with an innate talent for looking at drawings of mechanical devices and grasping the theory of operation. It is not a textbook by any stretch of the imagination. There are no equations, analyses of operation, or vector-space drawings as you would find in modern mechanical engineering textbooks. However, as an idea book for mechanical engineers at its very low cost it cannot be beat. The Amazon title page says it is copyrighted 1995. However, the book was written in 1868 and its content remains unchanged from that date of publication. The language is therefore flowery and somewhat archaic as you can see from the book's complete title: "Five Hundred and Seven Mechanical Movements, Embracing All Those Which Are Most Important In Dynamics, Hydraulics, Hydrostatics, Pneumatics, Steam Engines, Mill and other Gearing, Presses, Horology, and Miscellaneous Machinery: and including Many Movements Never Before Published and Several Which Have only Recently Come into Use". The book's format is quite simple: On one page you will see 8-10 drawings of mechanical devices. On the opposite page you will have a paragraph or so each describing those 8-10 mechanical devices. If there are any equations being spelled out it is done via prose, so you may need paper and pencil in hand to write in equation form what the author is telling you about the theory of operation. I think it functions well both as a history book for mechanical engineers and as a source of ideas of how mechanical devices can be combined to create more complex machines. I highly recommend it, as long as you understand what you are getting.

You will read the poems again and again!

I never read Loretta's poetry (or talk with her, for that matter) without being so impressed her wisdom, artistry and amazing good humor. She has been through a lot (witness a line from "Whipped," one of the wonderful poems in this volume: "The good old days were only good/ for those who had the goods"), but she always seems to have great quantities of courage, perseverance, and wit to share with the world. Buy this book! You will enjoy reading all her poems, not just once, but many times over!

Awesome book for beginner-intermediate essential oil learning

I am not sure how I feel about some of the recipes and suggestions in this book regarding safety, but this is such a giant wealth of knowledge and I will just use my training and research to pick and choose. I would highly recommend this book as a beginner-intermediate level of learning about essential oils. This is now pretty much my favorite book in my Aromatherapy library, and I'm so glad this more modern version was published! It is very easy to read and full of lots of information that will be easier to take in than "internet research".

She offers her favorite recipes here, from Crab Soup and Crawfish Etouffee to Squirrel Pie and Stewed Snapper Turtle, and includes lively reminiscences of her childhood and restaurant experiences. Many of the recipes, however, are available in other regional cookbooks; for larger and area collections.

A major classic

This book is truly a gem. Its 200 polished recipes bring back many happy memories. Reportedly, this famous restaurant is only open 4 days during the week from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Closed on weekends. Perhaps Mrs. Chase, now age 89, is finally sloiwing down. Apparently, the current Executive Chef is one of her great-grandsons, a MBA/Accountant who also graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Paris. If Mrs. Chase retires altogether, it's anyone's guess what will become of the iconic Dooky Chase Restaurant after its valiant recovery from devastation by Hurricane Katrina. Mrs. Chase lost her home in the storm as well and was relegated to a dismal FEMA trailer until matters improved. Glad I bought this wonderful cookbook with its great modern artwork and I look forward to making many of its treasured recipes.

Perfect recipes for tasty Louisiana dishes!

It's a great book with accurate recipes for really simple and tasty Louisiana food. If you like adding corn syrup, pectin and all sort of artificially-processed "crap" in your dishes, this is not the book for you!

Favorite cookbook EVER!

If you're a basic good ole soul food, stick to your ribs kinda cook, this is the only cookbook you'll ever need. The recipes are the best, but Mrs Chase has many wonderful, warm stories of growing up in her small home town of Madisonville, La. along with her delicious food! I like to give this as a shower/wedding gift. Warning...if you pick it up, you won't put it down!!!!
