Spartan Fit an excellent resource when doing a Spartan Race.

Spartan Fit is the follow up to Joe De Sena's 5 Star book Spartan Up!
Where Spartan Up dealt more with Joe's stories on never quitting and how to get that mindset, Spartan Fit deals with getting your body to never quit as well.
The book is broke down basically in 3 parts, stories that set up Joe's philosophy on Don't Quit, or as it's called in the community to "Spartan Up!". The second part deals with obstacles you would face in during Spartan race, and the last part he gives work outs to get you in shape for every obstacle, with some healthy recipes thrown in as well.
While I did enjoy the book and do recommend it, just know that it's more a workout program to overcome obstacles at a Spartan Race.

Tough to Mudder Through This One

The book was more PR for Spartan races and the author than any kind of valuable training program with some pseudo-history of Sparta mixed-in. Not much beyond basic guidelines for healthy living found in most fitness and healthy lifestyle guidebooks.

I read Spartan Up and then when this came out I had to preorder it. After reading it and adding the information in it to my training and my skills I will continue to grow in health and mindset. Being physically fit isn't what it's all about. It's also about being mentally fit. My friend also was able to get me a personalized book signed by Joe himself. I will now gift the book that I bought and keep my signed one to always look back on. If you want to get fit and get the mindset to get it done read the Spartan books.
