An excellent reference and resource - A "current classic"

This book is a classic: depth of information over a broad body of knowledge.
The error mentioned by another reviewer appears on p. 488: the "L-bar" term should be squared. Verifying dimensional homogeneity [i.e.that units of measure calculate consistently across the expression and result in "items" {whatever units demand is carried = units of safety stock}]) would alert a reader quickly that the product in the first term is incorrect.

A classic field handbook for manufacturing professionals

This textbook, which has been around for a number of years and has undergone a few revisions, has become the standard preparatory text for APICS tests and college-level production/operations management courses in dozens of universities.
The content is very broad - it covers almost the entire gamut of P/OM topics to some degree. That may be the only drawback to this book: it so broad in its topical coverage that there may be examples where the authors could have gone deeper in their presentation on specific subjects.
But even so, this charactertistic of being "100 miles wide and a few miles deep" works very well for readers who need a comprehensive primer on P/OM. That would include people just entering the field, or those that need to undestand the primary subject matters and areas of study, to point them in new directions.
I highly recommend this book as a foundation reference guide to your business library. Again, I know of many books that may be deeper in specific areas of P/OM, but I know of no book that encompasses so many topics and does and admirable job of presenting those topics. I would also caution the seasoned, highly-read P/OM professional in buying this book, but leave it for those newcomers to the field.

Too wordy and lengthy content to focus the points well

Even if it is taken as the popular textbook for MPC, I'd rather read the another one: "Introduction to the materials management" by Arnold and Chapman. I can not easily catch the points and feel muddled after reading long sections and words in this book. However, the examples and case studies here are worthy to have a big picture for those who are new in this field.

Ray Whittington is the dean of the Driehaus College of Businessat DePaul University, having previously served as chairman of the accounting department at San Diego State University.� He received his Ph.D. from the University of Houston. Dry and labored writing style

I'm not looking for a fiction fast-paced novel with accounting textbooks. But, I've read enough of them to realize when one is written better than another. This doesn't make the cut. All the critical information is in there, it's all factually consistent and written technically well. But it's a pedantic read. There's very little natural language used and there's no effort to relate to the reader for an easier comprehension experience.

User-friendly and informative

Good auditing text. Lots of relevant, user-friendly info, especially for beginners like me who are looking to get into auditing as a career path change and don't know a lot about the field yet. This book was used in conjunction with Connect online; all homework and tests were completed on Connect, which made it very easy. I took an Internal Auditing class not long ago and the text for that class was terrible. The chapters all basically said the same thing over and over. This book is much better and I look forward to using it for a long time in the future, including reading some of the chapters that my 10-week course isn't covering.

Mia G. Vayner, an Australian woman and life long follower of Tibetan Buddhism, is from a very large family hailing from Adelaide, South Australia. After many years of traveling the world Mia settled in New York City with her Russian-American wife where they have lived since the late nineties. With an unwavering passion, the reason for which becomes evident in this book, to protect children from Sexual Abuse, Mia is also an advocate for Survivors of Child Abuse. At press time, Mia Is working on the sequel to this book alongside a variety of other literary works including a biography of her beloved Mother-in-Law Rozalya as seen through her love of the culinary arts and those she shared it with. This story is set in South Australia and spans three generations of one family. It encompasses their struggles and secrets and, ultimately, their survival.

After a prologue set in 2006, the novel opens in 1918 with Maureen, a teenager, who has been given away by her father as a wife to a much older man in order to satisfy a gambling debt. Maureen arrives at a remote railway siding in South Australia to find that all of her belongings - except for a mirror and a chest of drawers - have been destroyed during the journey. The mirror will see Maureen's triumphs and share her pain as she learns, in order to survive, how to suppress her emotion. The mirror will become a silent symbol for Maureen and her family, a repository of events and memories.

When Maureen's husband dies she and her children return to her mother's. But not for long: the children, including her youngest daughter Jenny, are placed in an orphanage where abuse is rampant and children have no rights. Jenny survives by learning to ignore what she cannot change, and by avoiding the truth of it.

Jenny marries. The cycle of abuse is perpetuated: her husband abuses her, and the children. Eventually, he leaves the family. But it is far too late as one of Jenny's sons, himself abused, has learned to abuse his siblings, and later his children. Jenny's son Tony, one of the abused siblings, becomes the focus of the third generation. The novel ends with the promise of another to follow: I hope that it follows Tony's story further. Of all the individuals in this novel, he was the one about whom I cared the most.

This is presented as a novel based on fact. I can't tell where the facts end and the fiction begins but I can sense the pain in the telling of this story of child abuse which repeats over several generations. If the telling of the story is confronting for the reader, then I hope it proved beneficially cathartic for the writer. It is a triumph, to survive abuse and make a new life, and to break the cycle of abuse.

I had a few problems with the presentation of the novel because the Kindle version I downloaded lacks chapter breaks. While this was a minor irritation to me rather than a major impediment, I read the novel quite quickly and therefore did not lose any sense of continuity. The subject matter may make the novel difficult for some to read but this novel will resonate with those of us who care about the both the fact and the long term consequence of the abuse of children.
